What Does the Ninth Commandment Forbid?

"The ninth commandment forbids anything that gets in the way of the truth or injures anyone's reputation."

My family and I really enjoyed this devotional catechism question and discussion earlier this week. Not bearing false witness is really about truth...speaking it, living it, promoting it. The Scripture reference for this morning was:

Eph 4:21-25 ESV assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, (22) to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, (23) and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, (24) and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. (25) Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

So the Christian must love truth and avoid falsehoods. A Christian promotes truth because Christ is The Truth. A Christian does the hard work of searching out truth in every area of life (a Biblical Worldview) for the glory of God! What a good journey this is....
